Update 1: The First Two Months

It has been nearly two months since Lair of Reviews went live so I thought it was time for a few updates and a look back on what has been happening.

Firstly thank you so much to everyone who has liked one of my reviews and either subscribed or chosen to follow the progress of this site. It means a lot to me knowing that people are enjoying my work.

Between 2015 and 2018 I wrote approximately thirty reviews for an online magazine called Cuckoo Review which was run by the company New Writing North. The magazine no longer exists so I created Lair of Reviews with the intention of finding a new home for my old reviews as well as creating a space where I could write, explore and upload new content.

Theatre Reviews:

All four of my old theatre reviews have been uploaded to the site.

Given the situation facing us in 2020 it is unlikely that any of us will be able to return to theatres to enjoy a live performance for some time. I do have plans to write more theatre reviews in the future but these will be based on particularly memorable theatre performances I attended in previous years.

Film Reviews:

So far six of my old film reviews have been uploaded to the site with two more remaining. These last two reviews will be uploaded in the coming weeks.

Once all of my old reviews have been uploaded I intend to write a series of new film reviews which will cover a wider range of genres.

Book Reviews:

So far seven of my old book reviews have been uploaded to the site and there are still many more to come (I’m not even halfway through uploading all the book reviews!). These will be uploaded in the next few months.

Since there are so many of them, the book reviews will be the last of my old reviews to be uploaded to the site. Once this is done I will be able to start working on new reviews. Like the future film reviews these will cover a wider range of genres.

In August 2020 I was delighted to be asked by the Shropshire based publishing company Critical Tales to write a review for their debut novel Game of Gnomes: The Necrognomicon. You can check out the review here.

New Logo + The ‘About’ Page:

In early August 2020 I was thrilled when artist Chris White agreed to make a logo for the Lair of Reviews. The result is absolutely stunning!

A professional new logo also signalled the need to give the ‘About’ page on the site a well deserved makeover. The ‘About’ page currently features: information about the website, information about myself and directions to where you can find more of Chris’ amazing artwork.

What’s Next?

My immediate plan is to finish editing and uploading the rest of my older reviews. Once this is done I can start working on new content. In addition to new book and film reviews (and the occasion theatre review) I plan to start a new section for television series reviews. As the fantasy and science fiction genres are currently the smallest I plan on writing reviews for these genres first.

Once all of the older reviews have been uploaded a new ‘Archive’ page will go live. This will feature every review written for the site categorised by year. The older reviews which I originally wrote for the online magazine Cuckoo Review will fall under the ‘2015-2018’ category. All new reviews wrote this year will be placed under the ‘2020 Onwards’ category.

Stay safe everyone!
